Composite courses at OLT
Composite courses are stand-alone courses designed to accomplish a particular training goal. Used in conjunction with other Composite courses, they provide a more complete training solution. By design, Composite courses can be used as a stand-alone course, without taking additional courses. We use the term Composite rather than integrated to make this distinction. Integrated training solutions are incomplete without the other integral components. Composite courses are designed through educational psychology and behavioral science techniques to bind knowledge to the student. Additional composites increase the bonding. Practice Exams
Practice exams are an ideal way to check your preparation prior to actually taking the state-licensing exam. They provide an objective assessment of how much you know, and how well you should expect to do on the actual state exam. Many individuals, especially those with prior insurance agent experience, will be able to use just a practice exam to prepare for the state exam. OLT recommends always using a practice exam tool, such as ours, in conjunction with other study material - such as the state specific study manual or our tutorial or Pre-Licensing course. This allows you to review subject areas you may be weak in while practicing the exam.
State specific questions are becoming less important each year as a result of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) efforts to standardize the insurance laws, rules, and guidelines nationwide. In those cases where the rules have been standardized (which is the case about 95% of the time) those questions have been included as part of the OLT practice exam.

PassPrep (Cram) Courses
Cram Courses at OLT follow a unique instructional design methodology called the Redding Method. The purpose of the Redding Method is to increase the likelihood you will pass the state exam on the first try. The Redding Method reduces learning barriers and increases the retention of test information in short-term memory. After completing a Redding Method cram course you will be able to respond correctly to questions on state licensing exams. The cram course, using the Redding Method, has all the training attributes of the practice exam, however it focuses you only on correct responses and is designed to reduce barriers to learning, while building your confidence to successfully take and pass the state exam. Additionally, the cram courses at OLT are designed to track the test sequence of the various state examination organizations (Exterior and ASI, etc.). OLT places the cram course questions in the same sequence as the state exams where possible. OLT's cram courses include course maps which permit the student to select only those topics they wish to study. When properly used the OLT cram courses produces above a 95% pass rate!

Pre-Licensing Courses
The Pre-licensing courses at OLT are complete self-paced courses designed to teach the student all the information required to pass the entry-level insurance licensing exam. They are based on the state approved pre-licensing courses, following the same structure, and containing the same content. In those states where a pre-licensing course is required, the online pre-licensing course is the ideal way to learn the material associated with the Life, Health, or Variable Annuities insurance agent license.
OLT's online pre-licensing course was evaluated and compared to classroom-based courses taught in private corporate settings, in for profit commercial classes, and in classes taught in community colleges. The studies have shown that students taking OLT's online licensing courses learn the material better, scoring an average of 92.37% on the end of course exams as compared with classroom students who scored only about 80%. Additionally, learning in each of the cognitive domains measured: life, health, and annuities, was consistently better online producing a smaller standard deviation. The primary difference between the OLT Tutorial and the full Pre-Licensing course is in the area of instructor support and mandatory end of course exams. The online pre-licensing course provides interactive access to the instructor through chat and e-mail. It also includes practice questions and quizzes throughout the course. A Final Caution
Here is one final caution for students who choose to use only the practice exam as an aide to prepare to pass your state exam. OLT draws questions from a pool of over 1,500 questions. There is a core of about 900 questions that address specific knowledge items that insurance agents should know. These items are covered in detail in the published state study manuals, taught in most classroom based pre-licensing courses, and taught completely in OLT's own online courses. The other questions are variations on the same core questions.
The most effective way to use these Composite courses is to take them in the following sequence.
First, take a pre-licensing course or self-paced tutorial.
Second, take the online PassPrep (cram) course.
Finally, use the practice exam to verify that you are ready to pass your state exam. If you purchased the practice exam as a stand-alone training tool, and scored below 75% on your first attempt, OLT recommends you purchase the online PassPrep (cram) course. If you scored below 55% on your first attempt, you should seriously consider purchasing the online tutorial. While repeatedly taking the practice exam will build your test taking confidence, it is a poor way to actually learn the material you need to know in order to be an effective insurance agent or pass a state licensing exam.
