CHAPTER 4

ETHICS AND THE INSURANCE PRODUCER

Learning Objectives

In this chapter you will be exposed to licensure, ethics and the insurance producer. In particular this chapter addressed ethical business practice and public perceptions of the insurance industry. In particular, as a producer, you will become familiar with your ethical duties to the insurers, policyowners, clients and the general public.

The State of Florida has mandated ethical standards that include specific guidelines on what is considered acceptable, as well as unacceptable ethical behavior.

Producers have ethical duties to insurers, policyowners, clients and the general public, as well as the state. This chapter will provide insurance producers with the basic knowledge they need to function ethically and legally in the insurance industry. It also complies with a state law requiring all future pre-licensing courses to contain three hours of ethics training.
