by Shawn-Michael Manniel - Just wanted to clarify if we have expended 8000 of medical bills and the insured dies, the 5000 is in addition to the total amount making the pay out 13000 in total?

you are correct. The $5000 death benefit is in addition to the $10,000 PIP limit for medical, lost wages and replacement costs. In your example, the payout would be $13,000.
