Jan, question 20 in the study manual describes a personal auto policy owner has basic PIP and 1000 med pay. She is driving with a friend out of state and is hit by a drunk driver. She has 4000 in med expenses and her passenger has 5000. The question in the book is how much will policy pay in total from med pay and pip.
I calculated should be the full 9000, as pip would cover 80% of both drivers (7200) and the rest picked up by med pay (under the 1000 limit in both cases). The liability of the drunk driver doesn't appear to come into play.
The answer the book gives is 5000. I do not understand. Can you explain?
Thanks.
